In 1990, due to Nicola and Barbara’s strict commitment and efforts, the farm was enlarged with a own winery, very particular from a constructive point of view: it was created completely underground in order to not damage the landscape. Best technologies and machineries was chosen to furnish this unique winery, which had a maximum capacity of 100.000 bottles, including a sparkling wine’s little quantity.
During the years Balter Brut’s production increased gradually, thanks to the positive response given by consumers and experts starting from first bottles. Nowadays Balter’s winery produces around 35.000 sparkling bottles per year. Starting from 1995 a limited quantity of Balter Brut Riserva (around 3.000 bottles) was introduced in the product range. Year by year both Metodo classic, got many awards, given by different important guides renewed in the wine’s sector; concerning Balter Brut Riserva, wine year 2001 obtained the Gambero Rosso’s “Tre Bicchieri” prize in 1998.
Besides sparkling wines, the company offers a still wine range, red and white, renewed by experts and often "Price-Quality balance" award-winning, ones of the most important characteristic in a wine’s choose and purchase. Notwithstanding a large amount of white grapes are committed to the Brut’s production, another white wine created by Nicola is the Sauvignon, identified by its intense perfume ornate with a pepper’s note and tomato’s leaf aroma typical of this cultivar; they are evident but non-invasive at all, singular but opened toward tropical notes.
Diamond point of red wine is Barbanico, whose name was created by the union of Nicola and Barbara’s names (Balter brothers) by their father Francesco, first family’ wine lover. Basic cultivar, maximal expression of this land , is Lagrein, which is able to create, together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a cuvée characterized by an intense and depth color, and by a fruit of the forest’s perfume; it is wrapping in the mouth, a strong structure is present but with an acid support Barbanico is a wine extremely easy to drink and enjoy. Few years later from its first apparition, wine year 1997 received the Gambero Rosso "Tre Bicchieri" prize (2001), confirming itself at the top of many important guides; as an example in “Almanacco 2009 dei Grandi Vini Italiani” was named as Best Italian Wine.
Barbanico has a little brother: Lagrein Merlot. It is able in giving grateful sensations to the consumer, due to its youth and freshness; structured but easy to drink, it is also matching lunch food in really good way. Each situation fits with its ability in giving satisfaction to the palate.
The Cabernet Sauvignon, even if international cultivar, due to the microclimate influence and to the ground’s typology is able to propose to the final consumer a unique wine, different from all others achieved from this type of grapes. This wine is ruby-red with violet reflections, it tastes of raspberry, redcurrant and small fruits; at first moment into the mouth the perception is softness, together with a slightly peppery sensation with fine tannins and an important testing persistence. Following the company style the balance between all the components of this wine gives to the wine a great ease to drink.
Both sparkling wines are obtained following the Champagne method. Since from first operations, Nicola Balter tries to give an original print to the products. Even if the harvest is quite late, the acid support in granted by microclimate, thus allowing the achieve of a maturation degree ideal to confer taste, structure and long refining bias to the product . Pris de mousse is achieved through a slight lower atmospheric pressure than standard, this allow to drink Balter Brut during all the lunch or dinner and not only during a special moment. We offer two different label: Trento DOC Balter Brut and Trento DOC Balter Brut Riserva.
Balter Brut would be considered a Riserva, due to its 3 years stop on the yeasts, instead it is the basic product offered by the estate; 7 are the years spent by Balter Brut Riserva on the yeasts. Its main characteristics determine a straw yellow and a multiple-reflex brilliance, a fine and continue perlage and finally a very appealing perfume.
Riserva, notwithstanding long refining years, is able to keep a colour highlighting brightness and brilliance; straw yellow, chic perfume, chocolate and laurel nuances are just a little part of the values belonging to this product. This wine has everything you should expect from a successful Champagne: complexity, refinement, fine balance and brightness.
